How a Piece of Cardboard Earns This Guy Millions of Followers

Posted by

If you had 7.4 million followers on Instagram, as a marketer do you think you could monetize that audience into six figures?

New Yorker Seth Phillips is doing something ridiculously simple that anyone can copy. He creates the most basic of cardboard signs, holds them up in various and sometimes pertinent locations and has someone snap a photo of him. He then posts the photos on Instagram and… well… that’s all there is to it.

For this he’s earned 7.4 million followers and counting.

This technique could be used for just about any niche. Are you in the dating niche? See what people are saying about their dating experiences online, make a list of pithy observations of maybe 15 words or less, make signs and get someone to take pictures of you or of a model you hire holding the signs in public.

Repeat this procedure for any other niche you might be in… weight loss, hair loss, investing, work at home, etc.

If you’re thinking you could never stand in public holding a sign, remember it’s only for as long as it takes to get a good photo – maybe 60 seconds or less. And after the first few photos your shyness will dissipate so don’t let that stop you. Post every day and in 30 days you could be well on your way to a very large following created virally and with a minimum of work.

One more thing… remember to put your own personality into the mix. Don’t just hold the sign like you’re a lump of clay. Your body language, clothes, backdrop and everything in the photo can work to capture people’s attention and get them to forward your message to others.
